Jeielle Habinam Claudia

Jeielle graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Anthropology and minors in African Studies and French. While there, she served as President of the Africa Summit at Princeton, a student organization that brings together scholars, activists, artists, and thinkers for an annual campus summit. During her leadership, she launched the Undergraduate Africa Journal Initiative, a project supporting and showcasing undergraduate research on the African continent.

Much of Jeielle’s anthropological research is based in East Africa, where she has also worked with artistic and humanitarian organizations. As a Youth Ambassador for the Panzi Foundation, she helped raise awareness about sexual violence during wartime in Congo and supported the organization’s fundraising efforts. She has also conducted research in refugee camps in Goma, studying the psychological effects of war on Congolese communities and the community-based systems that spoken-word artists are building there to support healing.

Jeielle sees social work, advocacy, and academic reform as the foundation of her life’s work.
